I hope to visit Loyola when I'm in Trivandrum within the next few months. I hope that having not kept in contact with the school all these years, 40 years and counting (though I do recall a couple of visits) will not be a show stopper as far as my feelings towards the alma mater because like Ashok, I too went to Mar Ivanios college but have no particular desire to visit the college. Thanks for the post, as always well written and it reminded me that I should visit Loyola especially since this blog has triggered memories of days gone by....

There is something about Loyola that relentlessly invites you to visit even after your official association with the institution is long over. Or is it the guilt lingering within me for not having visited Loyola even once in the past 16 years regardless of the many opportunities I had to visit?

Sureshchetta, I hadn't thought of it as our "culture". Thanks for pointing out that. It is surely one of the welcome elements of Loyola culture.

Sreekumar, a true Loyola fanatic, eh? Glad to hear that the changes don't bother you. Loyolites' wives complain about their husbands yapping about the school. I shall now braze myself to hear from the li'l ones. :)

Cheeky Karthik, considering that I once blogged in favour of an alumni office, should I say Yes, or can I say No? ;) Once the familiar faces vanish from Loyola, I guess the alumni office can try -- upload videos and audio recordings, write syrupy blogposts like this, send monthly news updates via sms, etc... Maybe one can indeed digitise nostalgia.

Will an alumni office at school help the school connect to us? ;-)

Well said Ashok. Every time I visit TVM, I feel a sense of emptiness if I do not go to school and show my face. As soon as you enter those gates, you are almost instantly reminded of those good old days. Even more, despite so many things around the school having changed, the warmth that you sense is still the same. This time around, I plan to take our little daughter to visit the school when I am there.

True , it is nostalgia that is tied up to your old school. Happy to find a red carpet part of the story. Visiting ones old school and getting a cheerful welcome is part of a rich culture which a loyalite could be proud of. A good story indeed, comparing it with Ivanios took my thoughts to the olden days.
