What a co incidence???
put my son in a school and yes !!! l I was telling my wife about Loyola and the “Golden Heart”. I felt like checking out Fr. CP varkeys books if available on the net ..Lo !!!! I landed here…
I was there for the send off meet singing in the group lead by Anthony Sir….
….All fond memories ..and Fr. CP Varkey’s Loyola has brought out the best in a lot of us ….much much later in our lives…so far that even after 25 years most of us still talk about it with pride whenever we come across any topic related to school.
Great to be among Loyolites…..

think then it was stopped only in 12th…course 10th dint have a games period….dont knw the situation now…..btw excursions got cancelled for the whole school from last yr….our batch was the last one to go for a 4-5 day trip…thnk they gave made it a one day trip for all classes this yr…

your use of the term third trip brings a certain incident to mind…..during my 10th most of my class had after school tutions at nearby joy sir nd manorama madam…usual thing done was to play till 4 30 nd thn walk to pongamood….around 12-13 of us used to play on till 6 30-7 nd go directly home for most part of our 10th……nd i remember father varghese making a remark ” now i see that quite a few have started their own third trip after school hours”…….

btw the games period was stopped in our 12th…..guess an extra subject in the form of environmental science contributed to that….

Anish, thank you for the correction and new info from the 1970s.

Jiby, from my correspondence, visits and phone calls in 2008, I’ve come to the conclusion that that barring an odd boy there, nobody at school is really interested in learning more about the school, with a view to improving the situation. Most prefer to bury their heads in the sand.

Vishnu, second trip poray kalichu rasikkaan/padikkaan. Hope the Games period is intact, and at least one period a week for extra-curricular activities — literary, or artistic.

Ashok, thanks for this annual feature on past school mags. I wish somebody would print out your posts and stick it up on the school notice board for the management, staff and students to read. For one, the exerpts and your comments offers perspectives that are not even thought about in the daily grind of school life, but would definitely be valuable in making Loyola better.

The “second trip” was actually started some time in the late seventies. Maybe in 83-84 it became a daily affair as compared to the twice a week basis during my time in Loyola.

Vishnu, you recall the design well. The left-strip design appeared in the late 1980s.

Karthik, The maha eli, reminded me of VC Jacob sir’s clarification while mentioning rat poison: “eli visham, not television.”

I think these posts of yours should appear in the forthcoming Loyolite magazines just like you have that section ‘This Day That Age’ in the ‘Hindu’ newspaper. I really think the students will enjoy this

I know quite a few students who passed out during the 85-87 period, some of them who resided in the locality where I stayed. Remember Utkarsh Kulkarni, Vallabh Das, Vijay and the late Ram Prasad. Guess they would have been in the 6th or 7th standard during this period.

Also that poem on Maveli was great. I remember once P.K.Sebastian Sir was a Chief Guest for Onam celebrations at Loyola and he said the Maveli stores were “Maha Eli” stores!!!

There was a basic similarity in the front page design of The Loyolite in the latter 1990′s; a predominantly white page with a thick [coloured] vertical strip on the left side.
‘The Loyolite’ printed in a straightforward style , the school emblem and the year too.
This much if I am right.

I notice that 1982-83 and 83-84 front pages are similar to each other as well. But they really look retro compared to the 90′s. Off-late I believe there is no set pattern and mags are all the more colourful.
